Not long to go! Getting ready. The videocam is charged, the equipment checked. Soon it’ll be time to pack my bags.
This is going to be all about fear. Recognising it. Not shying away from the causes of it. I’ve been a practitioner of meditation for many years, and I hope this is going to help me through. Whatever’s waiting for me down there, whether it’s simply uncontrollable fear or the supernatural itself, meditation is going to be my tactic for dealing with it. The following is the teaching I’m taking to heart, which I hope will be my guiding light:
When full of dread and terror caused by magical displays of gods and demons or the like, recognize the fearful thought. Neither suppress nor indulge it. Rather than trying to correct it, train in simply being in that fearful thought in a way that is clear, naked and awake. By doing so, the thought is experienced as the meditation training. If the magical displays subside, imagine that an even more terrifying and mind-boggling magical display unfolds. Increase the fear even further and continue the practice as before. Thanks to Alex for sending me this!
I’ll probably be sleeping off the experience for most of the day tomorrow, so I may go quiet for a bit, but will post as soon as I’m relatively compos mentis.
